Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we at San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention (SD4GVP) collect, use and protect any information you provide when you visit our website, fill out our forms, donate to us or purchase merchandise from us.

Information We Collect

When you use our website, the only personal information we collect is what you voluntarily provide through our forms and donation pages. That may include:

Contact information. That includes your name, email address, phone number, mailing address and information contained in any comments you may leave.
Donation/purchase information. If you make a donation or purchase merchandise from us, you enter payment information through a secure, third-party payment processor that follows industry-standard security protocols. We see your name and the time, date and amount of your donation. Some processors show us your contact information (see above); if so, we store it in a secure, local database so that we can contact you in case of questions regarding payment. Some processors show us the last four digits of your payment card number; we do not store that data.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information you provide for the following purposes:

To contact you. We may use your personal data to contact you via email with newsletters, including time-sensitive calls to action, that may be of interest to you. Message frequency may vary; we are conscientious about not sending you email too often. We may send you text messages of interest to you. If so, then message and data rates may apply. You may opt out of receiving email messages from us by contacting us or by using the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email; you may respond STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE to any SMS message we may send.
For processing your donations and payments. We use your payment information to process donations and payments securely through our trusted third-party processor. If you are not already in our email database, we add the personal data from your donation or purchase to our database to contact you (see above).
To improve our services. We may use aggregated information to improve the content and function of our website.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

SD4GVP does not sell, rent or share your personal information with anyone else for marketing purposes.

With your permission, we will connect you to trusted member organizations of our coalition who work with us to prevent gun violence. We do not share personal data (e.g., SMS consent, phone number, email address) with third parties or affiliates under any circumstances.

In compliance with legal obligations, we may disclose information as required by law.

Data Security

Our website uses industry-standard encryption and security measures (HTTPS) to protect the data submitted through our forms. However, no online transmission is completely secure, and you provide information at your own risk.

Our third-party email provider stores in the cloud any personal data (name, email address, mailing address) that you give us to contact you. They require that information be handled with appropriate levels of encryption in accordance with their policies and standards and to comply with applicable laws.

Cookies and Tracking

We and selected third parties use cookies and similar techniques. They help us analyze site traffic, improve the site and personalize content. We do not track your behavior on domains other than ours.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, as well as to unsubscribe from communications at any time. To exercise your rights or pose questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us at the email address shown below.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices. You are welcome to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
